PERSONAL REVIEW

PCX 150 is a medium-sized commuter scooter from Honda, so I don’t expect much engine power and speed.
Riding comfort and stability is superb though.

Below are some of my impression of the scoot just after around 500kms on it.

SMARTKEY

The 2016 model is now keyless; it only uses a “smartkey”. This leaves me scratching my head sometimes, as I’m the guy who grew up using traditional keys in motorcycle.

Below is the photo of the knob that replaced the key. Beside is the switch to open and close the fuel tank and the seat compartment locks.

The new PCX is using a remote instead.

The top button makes your scoot beeps and blinks its hazard lights when pressed. Useful in helping you find your bike easily in a packed parking space.
The mid button turns on/off the scoot’s alarm.
The last button locks and unlocks the knob.

The smartkey is pretty new to me, and I’m afraid I might one day forget to lock the bike and left it. Though the bike warns you by beeping and flashing the hazards if you’re 3 meters away from the bike and you forgot to lock it, the possibility of me not noticing it is still pretty high.

CBS (combined braking system)

I almost bought the Yamaha Nmax because of its ABS brakes, but decided that the PCX is more eye-catching. (Personal taste)
Honda PCX is using the CBS braking system, it is a system for linking front and rear brakes of the scoot. In this system, the rider's action of depressing one of the brake levers applies both front and rear brakes. They claim this avoids skidding accidents due to the brakes locking. As a guy who has been riding motorcycles for years and knowing about proper braking, this isn’t a big concern to me but a welcome addition.

THE PANEL BOARD

The panel board is very basic. It shows the usual analog speedometer, a digital fuel gauge and a digital clock in the middle.

You also have the option to check total current trip travelled, average fuel consumption of the trip and the total odometer reading of the scoot.

IDLING-STOP FEATURE

This is the most useful feature for me in city driving. The idle stop feature will automatically turn off your engine in traffic lights or any long idling situations. What’s more awesome is that you can automatically turn your engine on with a small twist of the accelerator once it’s time to go. From an off engine to a twist and go in seconds, this is brilliant technology.

FUEL ECONOMY

If the fuel gauge is accurate, I’ll get 51.5 km/L in city riding and a whooping 61.5km/L in open highway rides. The idling stop feature really help in city driving fuel economy. It could also be the fact that I haven’t tried running the scoot above 100kph yet.

It could also be that the Honda Smart Technology they called “enhanced smart power” is really working its magic. Or it could be because it’s a fuel injected scoot. Maybe all of the mentioned combined.

CITY DRIVING

Acceleration is good enough to get me out of trouble in many cases. Filtering is sometimes a problem as it is a little wider than most 125 scoots. It’s liquid cooled, so engine temperature seems not a concern in heavy traffic. Seats are wide and riding position is comfortable.

HIGH-WAY RIDING

Haven’t pushed the scoot to its top end yet, and that is not my intended use for the scoot anyway. I saw videos in youtube where they were able to reach 130kph in a long stretch. One thing i noticed, the scoot is more stable at higher speeds than most scoots Ive ridden. Maybe because of the weight.

LED LIGHTS

All the lights are LED, so it doesn’t get hot. The lights are LED white and not the usual yellow bulbs. I still prefer yellow light for visibility though.

The scoot also has built in hazard lights that may come handy in some situations.

SHOCK ABSORBERS

Shock absorbers are so-so, could use some upgrade one of these days.
The PCX features a dual rear shock, unlike most of the smaller Honda scoots with single rear shocks.

U-BOX

The u-box can accommodate one full face helmet and some more space for tools, documents and any other stuff.

Good enough. But a GIVI box might be on my shopping list soon.

-------------------

So far that's my observations for now. No major complains, except that it's a little on the heavy side (for my size) and mahirap isingit compared to smaller scoots. BTW, stock IRC tires are hard compound so medyo di maganda grip but I'm not into knee-scraping banking so okay lang.

I will add more infos if I noticed anything noteworthy.

Cheers..

Alex
