Need a decent bike but only for a year or so — what's my best strategy?

I'm only gonna be in the Philippines for about a year or so, but I want a bike while I'm here. I'll be using it both for city and, ideally, light off-roading (motocamping, mostly). I plan on reselling it once the year is up and I'm about to leave.

What's my best option: buy used (which will cost less up front) or new (which will be easier to resell)? If I buy new, am I better buying in cash (cheaper) or getting a payment plan that someone just takes over (easier to get someone to agree to)? If I go for the latter, do they still pay me a little up front to cover some of the down payment, or do I eat that?

If this were the States it'd be easy: buy on Craigslist, use, sell on Craigslist. Done. But I don't know how much I trust OLX sellers (especially those that say "No Test Rides!"), and I don't know how easy it'll be for me to resell on OLX when I'm done.

Folks that know the market better than me: what do you suggest? What will be the easiest & least expensive way to go? Hopefully it's the same answer for both.
